To be (am, is are), can, have, will, etc.
Primeiro caso:
a. Sam has read the paper. – Declaração
a. Sam rrés riid dê pêipâr.
a. Sam leu o jornal.
b. Has Sam read the paper? – Pergunta
b. RRés Sam riid dê pêipâr?
b. Tem Sam lido o jornal? Sam leu o jornal?
Segundo caso:
a. Sam enjoys the paper. – Declaração com verbo não auxiliar
a. Sam endjóis dê pêipâr.
a. Sam se diverte (com) o jornal. Gostou, aproveitou.
b. *Enjoys Sam the paper?
b. Endjóis Sam dê pêipâr?
b. Diverte-se Sam (com) o jornal?
c. Does Sam enjoy the paper? – A frase com o auxiar Does permite a pergunta.
c. Dâs Sam endjói dê pêipâr?
a. He isn’t nice.
a. RRi isn’t náiss.
a. Ele não é bonito.
b. Isn’t he nice? o sujeito inverte com a contração isn’t.
b. Isn’t rri náiss?
b. Não é ele bonito?
Compare com:
Is he not nice? – sem contração.
Is rri nót náiss?
Ele não é bonito?
Is not he nice? – forma arcaica.
Is nót rri náiss?
Ele não é bonito?
Quarto caso:
Fazendo perguntas com a palavra what:
a. Sam is reading the paper. – Declaração.
a. Sam is riidhinn dê pêipâr.
a. Sam está lendo o jornal.
b. What is Sam reading? – Pergunta usando a palavra What.
b. Uót is Sam riidhinn?
b. O que está Sam lendo?
Quinto caso:
a. Somebody has read the paper. – Declaração.
a. Sammbádh rrés riid dê pêipâr.
a. Alguém tem lido o jornal.
b. Who has read the paper? – O sujeito é uma interrogativa.
b. RRu rrés riid dê pêipâr?
b. Quem leu o jornal?
c. Which fool has read the paper? – O sujeito contém uma interrogativa.
c. Uitch fuul rrés riid dê pêipâr?
a. “What did Sam eat?”, Cathy wonders. – Inversão em pergunta direta
b. *Cathy wonders what did Sam eat.
c. Cathy wonders what Sam ate. – Correto; pergunta indireta formada sem inversão.
Similar:
a. We asked whether Tom had left. – Correto; pergunta indireta sem inversão.
b. *We asked whether had Tom left. – Incorreto; pergunta indireta não permite inversão.
Sexto caso:
Pergunta em forma arcaica (antiga).
Know you what it is to be a child? (Francis Thompson)
Do you Know what is to be a child? – inglês moderno.
Have you any idea what this would cost?
Sétimo caso:
a. Larry has started working. – Traditional VP predicate is a continuous combination of words.
b. Has Larry started working? – Traditional VP predicate is no longer continuous.
a. Susan will listen to the music. – Traditional VP predicate is a continuous combination of words.
b. Will Susan listen to the music? – Traditional VP predicate is no longer continuous.
