A Torre Negra

A Torre Obscura

The Dark Tower is an upcoming American science fantasywestern action horror film directed and co-written by Nikolaj Arcel.[2] A continuation of Stephen King‘s novel series of the same name, the film stars Idris Elba as Roland Deschain, a gunslinger on a quest to protect the Dark Tower – a mythical structure which supports all realities – and Matthew McConaughey as his nemesis, Walter Padick, the “Man in Black”.

Intended to launch a film and television franchise, the first installment combines elements from several novels in the eight-volume series, taking place partly in modern-day New York City and partly in Mid-World, Roland’s Old West-style parallel universe. Additionally, King has tweeted a photo of the Horn of Eld with the caption “Last Time Around”, which relates to the ending of the final book, The Dark Tower VII; Arcel has said that fans will know the movie is a sequel to the books’ events.[3]The film is set to be released on August 4, 2017 in 3D and 2D by Columbia Pictures.[4][5][6]

A lone gunslinger.[7] On the choice of Elba, director and co-writer Nikolaj Arcel stated, “For me, it just clicked. He’s such a formidable man.” He added that he’s been an admirer of Elba’s since The Wire.[7] Arcel then stated, “I had to go to Idris and tell him my vision for the entire journey with Roland and the ka-tet. We discussed, who is this character? What’s he about? What’s his quest? What’s his psychology? We tried to figure out if we saw the same guy. And we absolutely had all the same ideas and thoughts. He had a unique vision for who Roland would be.”[7] Stephen King himself spoke highly of Elba, stating: “I love it. I think he’s a terrific actor, one of the best working in the business now.”[7] On the character of Roland, King noted: “For me the character is still the character. It’s almost a Sergio Leone character, like the Man with No Name,” while remarking, “He can be white or black, it makes no difference to me. I think it opens all kind of exciting possibilities for the backstory.”[7]

Qual é a psicologia dele? [7]

An ageless deceiver and sorcerer who also seeks to reach the tower and rule over its seemingly infinite kingdoms.[7] On the choice of McConaughey, Arcel stated, “Matthew is an incredible actor who can do anything. That’s how I feel about [Walter]. He could do anything.”[7] About the character of Padick, Arcel added, “He is this timeless sorcerer, and being a Stephen King fan, I’ve read and experienced Walter in various iterations”; Arcel making references to The Stand and The Eyes of the Dragon.[7] “He has a very interesting way of seeing the world. He sees it with a sort of delight, even though he is obviously on the wrong side of the light-and-dark spectrum. He’s someone I’ve been having a lot of fun with.”[7] King makes mention of him never having a clear image of the character’s face, to which he explained: “I never really thought of him. But [in the movie] he becomes a character who isn’t just a mirage that Roland is chasing. The way things are set up, he’s right there.”[7]

Ele poderia fazer qualquer coisa”. The Eyes of the Dragon . “ [7]

A young boy who Roland must call upon to complete his journey, and a son-like figure to Deschain.[7][8][9] Taylor won the role after an international search to find the young actor who would serve as the protege of Deschain.[8]

Development history

The Dark Towers protagonist Roland as depicted in the opening credits of another Stephen King adaptation, The Mist (2007)

The project has been ongoing since 2007 with periodic reports and official announcements. To date, the proposed film adaptation has gone through three major phases of planning: initially with J. J. Abrams from 2007 to 2009, then with Ron Howard from 2010 to 2015, and currently with Arcel with Howard remaining in a producing role.

J. J. Abrams (2007–09)

IGN Movies first reported in early February 2007 that a film adaptation of The Dark Tower series was in the works. J. J. Abrams, co-creator of the television series Lost, was supposedly attached to produce and direct. Carlton Cuse and Damon Lindelof, who co-created Lost with Abrams, optioned The Dark Tower from King for a reported amount of nineteen dollars, a number that mysteriously recurs throughout the series.[14] According to issue #923 of Entertainment Weekly, King “is an ardent supporter of [Lost] and trusts Abrams to translate his vision” into a film franchise with Lindelof being “the leading candidate to write the screenplay for the first installment.”[15] It was around this same time that Marvel Comics launched their graphic novel adaptation of The Dark Tower with The Dark Tower: The Gunslinger Born. Later, in March 2007, Abrams noted in an interview with Wired that the project is “something that we are just now talking about with Stephen, so it’s too early for me to say that we’re even officially doing it yet just because the thing is in the early stages of discussion.”[16]

A year later, in February 2008, Abrams reiterated that The Dark Tower adaptation was in the early stages of development, when interviewed by Reelz Channel.[17] When interviewed by AMC in September 2008, Abrams admitted that the project needs time he does not have because of Lost, especially since he would like to see a seven-film series (the eighth novel would be published in 2012). However, in May 2009, Abrams stated to IGN that he and Lindelof were planning on beginning work on The Dark Tower as soon as Lost finished its run.[18]Speaking to MTV News around the same time, Lindelof revealed some apprehension regarding the project, noting that his “reverence for Stephen King is now getting in the way of what any good writer would do first when they’re adapting a book, which is take creative license.”[19] In a July 2009 interview with C21 Media, Lindelof revealed that he and Cuse had indeed optioned the rights for The Dark Tower, but said he was wary about committing to such an ambitious project: “The idea of taking on something that massive again after having done six seasons of Lost is intimidating and slightly frightening, to say the least.”[20]

With these reservations being voiced by the producers, this initial phase of the project came to an end at the end of 2009 after three years, since this was a three-year option. In an interview with USA Today in October 2009, Damon Lindelof stated: “You’ll be hard-pressed to find a huger fan of The Dark Tower than me, but that’s probably the reason that I shouldn’t be the one to adapt it. After working six years on Lost, the last thing I want to do is spend the next seven years adapting one of my favorite books of all time. I’m such a massive Stephen King fan that I’m terrified of screwing it up. I’d do anything to see those movies written by someone else. My guess is they will get made because they’re so incredible. But not by me.”[21]Finally, in November 2009, Abrams stated that he would not be adapting the series. During an interview with MTV News, Abrams made the following comments: “The Dark Tower thing is tricky. The truth is that Damon and I are not looking at that right now.”[22]

Ron Howard (2010–15)

In April 2010, five months after Abrams had revealed that he would no longer pursue his adaptation of The Dark Tower, Deadline.com reported that Universal Pictures will be bringing the series to both the big and the small screens via a trilogy of feature films alternating with two seasons of a television series to bridge gaps between the films. The involved parties included Akiva Goldsman writing the script, Ron Howard directing and producing, along with Brian Grazer and Stephen King.[23] The report was made official by NBC Universal five months later via a press release dated September 8, 2010.[24] In an interview with Entertainment Weekly following the announcement, King stated that “I always thought it would take more than a single movie, but I didn’t see this solution coming—i.e., several movies and TV series. It was Ron [Howard] and Akiva [Goldsman]’s idea. Once it was raised, I thought at once it was the solution.”[25] A month later, in October 2010, it was reported that the first Dark Tower film would open on May 17, 2013.[26] In December 2010, Howard offered the following in regards to the project’s progress: “It is going well, and it has been incredibly stimulating to work on. I really can’t stop thinking about it. We’ve been meeting and talking and I’ve been reading and researching and just kind of living with it. I hope it goes great. I hope it goes the way we think it will. It never does, really. But sometimes it goes better.” Despite Howard’s enthusiasm, Universal had not greenlit the project yet at that point.[27][28]

By the end of 2010 and the beginning of 2011, New York Post was reporting that Javier Bardem and Viggo Mortensen were in line to play the lead character of Roland Deschain, and Naomie Harris was being considered for the character of Susannah Dean.[29][30] Speaking on The Howard Stern Show in January 2011 and qualifying his words with the phrase “I don’t know if it’s going to happen or not”, Howard said that after the first film, which would be more action-oriented, a six-episode television miniseries would follow, focusing more on character-driven drama.[31] For his part, Brian Grazer stated around the same time that a casting announcement could be made “within a week.”[32] As reported by Deadline on January 26, 2011, Javier Bardem was officially offered the role of Roland, though no official negotiations had yet taken place.[33] Grazer stated in March 2011 that Bardem “really wants to do it.”[34]

In April 2011, it was reported that Mark Verheiden (Heroes, Battlestar Galactica) was joining the television portion of the project as executive producer and Akiva Goldsman’s co-writer. The same month it was officially announced that Javier Bardem was cast in the role of Roland.[35] However, just a month later, a report in Variety revealed that Universal may seek another studio’s help, as the project’s budget appeared to be more than they were willing to handle.[36] The Hollywood Reporter wrote later that the project was on the verge of turnaround, and Warner Bros. or Columbia Pictures could potentially take the project on, revealing that Universal had paid $5 million for the rights.[37] Shortly after that, Universal committed to a lower budget for the project and Goldsman began rewriting the script to reflect these changes.[38]

Originally, production was slated to begin in September 2011, but in May 2011 it was being pushed back to February 2012 or early spring. The project was still not yet greenlit by the studio, which had to happen by July 2011.[39][40] Then on July 18, 2011, Universal decided to cancel development of the entire project due to budgetary concerns.[41] Despite this, Stephen King was confident Howard would see the project through, stating that he was “sorry Universal passed, but not really surprised. I bear them no ill will, and trust Ron Howard to get Roland and his friends before the camera somewhere else. He’s very committed to the project.”[42] In August 2011, Howard stated that they were “trying to get outside financing to make it, and distribute it through a major [studio]”, including the fact that Netflix might be an outlet.[43] Later, in October 2011, Howard confirmed the adaptation is still on track, noting that HBO would now carry the television portion of the project.[44]

By March 2012, it was being reported that Warner was interested in taking on the project.[45] Several months later Goldsman delivered a new script for the first film to Warners, and the studio had to make a decision in August 2012 whether to go ahead with the project. As well, Russell Crowe was being talked about as the lead character.[46] On August 20, 2012, Warner Bros. officially passed.[47] At the same time, Media Rights Capital (MRC) was reported to be in talks to take over the project from Warner.[48] In May 2013 it was reported that “a Silicon Valley investor” was interested in financing the project as it was originally envisioned.[49]

In January 2014, Aaron Paul stated that he had a conversation with Howard and was possibly being considered to play Eddie Dean (earlier, in October 2012, Paul had tweeted that the role of Eddie Dean was a “huge dream” of his).[50][51] Following that, a rumor appeared that Liam Neeson was interested in the part of Roland.[52]

Nikolaj Arcel (2015–present)

On April 10, 2015, it was announced that Sony Pictures Entertainment with MRC were fast-tracking the project, now with a completely reworked script by Goldsman and Jeff Pinkner. King appeared optimistic, saying: “I’m excited that The Dark Tower is finally going to appear on the screen.” Howard appeared to be out as director, but would remain in a producing capacity.[53] On June 2, 2015, Deadline.com reported that Sony was looking to Nikolaj Arcel to direct.[54] Arcel officially signed on July 10, 2015. He and Anders Thomas Jensen are to rewrite the script.[55] On August 5, 2015, Sony Pictures Entertainment set the film for a release of January 13, 2017.[56] In November 2015, Variety reported that Matthew McConaughey had been offered the role of the Man in Black (also known as Randall Flagg from The Stand, another role McConaughey had been offered in an upcoming adaptation).[57] In January 2016, it was officially announced that Idris Elba has been cast to play Roland Deschain.[58]

On February 18, 2016, Deadline reported that Abbey Lee had apparently been offered the female lead role of Tirana.[59] On March 1, 2016, Entertainment Weekly confirmed the casting of Idris Elba as Roland and Matthew McConaughey as The Man in Black, with shooting set to begin in South Africa in April.[7] On March 5, Sony announced that the film would be moving back on the schedule from January 13 to February 17.[6] On March 10, 2016, Variety reported that young actor Tom Taylor is cast as Jake Chambers.[8] Filming began on April 12, 2016.[60][61][62] Abbey Lee, Jackie Earle Haley, Fran Kranz and Tom Taylor were added to the cast when filming commenced while Katheryn Winnick and Michael Barbieri joined the film at the end of April 2016 and Claudia Kim was cast as Arra Champignon in May 2016.[63][64][65][66][67]

Production

The Dark Tower began filming in South Africa in April 2016.[68] The film also shot scenes in New York.[69]

The efforts to adapt The Dark Tower series for the screen have been ongoing since 2007.[70] The project was later shelved, before the rights were transitioned to a different production company. The project has experienced starts and stops with various filmmakers and studios at different times, including Universal Films, Paramount, ColumbiaTristar Entertainment, and Lionsgate Entertainment. The current iteration, announced in March 2015, is produced by Sony Pictures Entertainment and Media Rights Capital.

Release

The film was scheduled to be released on February 17, 2017.[citation needed] In November 2016, the film was pushed back to a July 28, 2017 release date to fill the release date for Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle.[citation needed] In late March 2017, it was pushed back again to August 4, 2017, switching places with Sony Pictures Animation‘s The Emoji Movie.[71]

Promotion

An unfinished rough cut of the first trailer leaked online on October 10, 2016, but was later taken down almost all over the internet. On May 3, 2017, a full length trailer was released.[72] Also, promotional Websites have been established, tet-corporation.com and thesombragroup.com

Follow-up TV series

In September 2016, Entertainment Weekly reported that following the release of the film, a TV series set within the same continuity is scheduled to be released in 2018. Both Elba and Taylor are set to reprise their roles as Roland and Jake respectively. Reportedly the series will potentially fill in the backstory to the film, being based on King’s The Dark Tower IV: Wizard and Glass, and star a younger actor playing a young Roland.[73]

A torre Obscura –  série

Desenvolvimento

The Magazine of Fantasy & Science Fiction.

Production

Development

In 2012, it was announced that Luc Besson planned to make a movie for the big screen of the French comic series Valérian and Laureline, published in 1967, which has sold 10 million copies and has been translated into 21 languages. On 12 May 2015, Besson revealed in his very first tweet that he would write and direct the Valerian film, while Dane DeHaan and Cara Delevingne would star.[12] DeHaan and Delevingne would play the titular roles, space and time-traveling agents from a futuristic Earth.[13] On 19 August 2015, Clive Owen signed on to play Commander Arün Filitt in the film.[14] This film marks the return of the director to space opera, twenty years after The Fifth Element, and confirms its appeal to the genre of science fiction, especially after Lucys worldwide success in 2014. The budget of €197 million is by far the largest ever assembled for a French film. Previously, Asterix at the Olympic Games was the most expensive with a budget of €78 million, just ahead of Besson’s The Fifth Element (€75 million).[15] By the end of August 2015, Besson said in an RTL radio interview that shooting the film in France was too expensive. Because it was shot in a foreign language (English), Besson was unable to benefit from tax credits despite preferring to produce it in France and create jobs for 1,200 crew members.[15][16] The criteria to obtain these tax credits were then adapted accordingly. In May 2015 it was announced Fundamental Films would invest US$50 million in the film.[17]

Spider-Man: Homecoming is an upcoming American superhero film based on the Marvel Comics character Spider-Man. Co-produced by Columbia Pictures and Marvel Studios, and distributed by Sony Pictures Releasing, it is intended to be the second reboot of the Spider-Man film franchise and the sixteenth film of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). The film is directed by Jon Watts, with a screenplay by Jonathan Goldstein & John Francis Daley and Watts & Christopher Ford and Chris McKenna & Erik Sommers, and stars Tom Holland, Michael Keaton, Jon Favreau, Zendaya, Donald Glover, Tyne Daly, Marisa Tomei, and Robert Downey Jr. In Spider-Man: Homecoming, Peter Parker tries to balance high school life with being the hero Spider-Man as he faces the Vulture.

In February 2015, Marvel Studios and Sony reached a deal to share the character rights of Spider-Man, integrating the character into the established MCU. The following June, Holland was cast as the title character, while Watts was hired to direct, followed shortly after by the casting of Tomei and the hiring of Daley and Goldstein to write the script. In April 2016, the film’s title was revealed, along with additional castings including Downey. Principal photography began in June 2016 at Pinewood Atlanta Studios in Fayette County, Georgia and continued in New York City before concluding in Berlin the following October. During filming, Watts, Christopher Ford, Chris McKenna, and Erik Sommers were revealed as additional screenwriters, and more cast members were confirmed.

Spider-Man: Homecoming is scheduled to have its premiere in New York City on June 28, 2017, and be released on July 7, 2017, in the United States in 3D, IMAX, and IMAX 3D. A sequel is scheduled to be released on July 5, 2019.

Cast

(L:R) Tom Holland, Laura Harrier, Tony Revolori, Jacob Batalon, Zendaya and director Jon Watts promoting Spider-Man: Homecoming at the 2016 San Diego Comic Con International.

  • Tom Holland as Peter Parker / Spider-Man:
A 15-year-old who received spider-like abilities after being bitten by a genetically-modified spider.[5] Producers Kevin Feige and Amy Pascal were impressed by Holland’s performances in The Impossible, Wolf Hall, and In the Heart of the Sea, as well as his numerous screen tests for the role.[6] Holland took inspiration from Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield, the previous Spider-Man actors, but also hoped to deliver something “new and exciting” with his take on the character.[7] Holland added, “This is a very different side to Spider-Man because you’re going to see a kid dealing with everyday problems that a 15-year-old deals with as well as trying to save the city.”[8] Holland attended The Bronx High School of Science in The Bronx for a few days to prepare for the role.[9] While there, he told a few of the students he would be portraying Spider-Man, who did not believe him, which Holland felt would carry over well into the film, where other characters do not suspect Parker of being Spider-Man.[10] It took Holland between 25 and 45 minutes to get into costume, depending on if he had to wear a harness for stunts underneath the suit.[9] Holland initially signed for “three Spider-Man movies and three solo movies”.[11]
  • Michael Keaton as Adrian Toomes / Vulture:
A man with criminal tendencies who runs a New York salvaging company and has a suit consisting of mechanical wings forged from Chitauri technology.[12] Director Jon Watts said Toomes would be different from other MCU villains like Thanos and Ultron, as “It’s fun to think that if Spider-Man is a regular kid who becomes a superhero, there’s got to be a bunch of regular guys who become supervillains, too.”[13] Keaton called Toomes “interesting to play” and not completely villainous, saying “there’s parts of him that you go, ‘You know what? I might see his point.'”[14] Co-producer Eric Hauserman Carroll likened Toomes to “the dark Tony Stark”,[12] a “businessman with a family. He wants to look out for his kids. He’s got sort of a Tony Soprano mentality. He doesn’t have these big delusions of grandeur where he wants to take over the world, or replace the government, or even defeat the Avengers or anything. He just wants his shot at the good life”.[15] Keaton was not hesitant to portray another comic book character, after previously portraying Batman in Tim Burton‘s 1989 film and its 1992 sequel.[14] Watts was inspired by John C. Reilly‘s Nova Corpsman Rhomann Dey from Guardians of the Galaxy for Toomes’ “ground-level perspective” in the film.[12]
  • Jon Favreau as Happy Hogan: The former head of security for Stark Industries and Tony Stark’s driver and bodyguard.[16]Favreau stated that in the film, Hogan is “looking after [Parker]. He needs someone to help him out.”[17]
  • Zendaya as Michelle:
One of Parker’s classmates,[18] “very smart, very intellectual, [and] always in her books.”[19] Michelle was not intended to be a love interest for Parker, with Zendaya calling her “very dry, awkward, intellectual and because she’s so smart, she just feels like she doesn’t need to talk to people… So she comes off very weird. But to me, she is very cool because she’s deep. She’s always thinking about something, always reading.”[20] Watts likened the character to Ally Sheedy‘s Allison Reynolds from The Breakfast Club or Linda Cardellini‘s Lindsay Weir from Freaks and Geeks.[15]
  • Donald Glover[21]
  • Tyne Daly[22]
  • Marisa Tomei as May Parker:
Peter’s aunt.[23][24] First reports of Tomei’s casting caused backlash on social media, with comic book fans opining that the actress was “too young and attractive to portray the character”,[25]especially after the character had previously been depicted by older actresses than Tomei. Regarding this, Captain America: Civil War co-writer Stephen McFeely said that, for the MCU, they were trying to make Peter “as naturalistic as possible…That’s partly why his aunt isn’t 80 years old; if she’s the sister of his dead mother, why does she have to be two generations ahead?”[26] After researching the character, Tomei did make “a case to age me up, but no they didn’t do it.”[27]
  • Robert Downey Jr. as Tony Stark / Iron Man:
A self-described genius, billionaire, playboy, and philanthropist with electromechanical suits of armor of his own invention, who is Parker’s mentor and is the creator of Damage Control.[28][15] Sony Pictures Motion Picture Group chairman Thomas Rothman noted that, beyond the commercial advantage of featuring Downey in the film, the inclusion of Stark was important due to the relationship established between him and Parker in Captain America: Civil War, and felt that the development of that relationship would be a rewarding aspect of the film.[29] Watts added, “You have to think about the implications of what he did in Civil War, which is pluck this 15-year-old kid out of obscurity and bring him to Germany to embark on this insane adventure. And then he just drops him off at the end of it while he continues his part of the story. There’s a lot of repercussions to that. Is it a first step towards Tony as some sort of mentor figure? Is he comfortable with that?”[30]

Jacob Batalon portrays Parker’s best friend Ned,[31][18][32] a “complete gamer”.[33] Marvel used Ned Leeds as a basis for the character, who does not have a last name in the script or film, but essentially created their own character with him. Carroll said that Ned and other characters in the film are essentially composites of several of their favorites from Spider-Man comics, and while Ned may eventually wind up with the last name “Leeds”, it is not a guarantee.[32] Laura Harrier portrays Liz Allan, Parker’s love interest and classmate,[34][35] with a “type-A” personality.[15] Tony Revolori plays Flash Thompson, Parker’s rival and classmate.[36][35] Revolori spoke about portraying Thompson, who is generally depicted as white in the comics, saying, “I know how important the character is to the comic-book fans, so I’m trying to do him justice.”[35] Rather than being a physically imposing jock, Thompson was re-imagined as “a rich, smug kid” to reflect modern views of bullying;[37] this depiction was largely informed by Holland’s visit to The Bronx High School of Science.[9]

Additionally, Bokeem Woodbine plays Herman Schultz / Shocker,[12]who uses modified versions of Crossbones‘s gauntlets that shoot vibro-blasts,[31][38][15] while Logan Marshall-Green portrays another Shocker; both are accomplices of Toomes.[39][15][40] Michael Chernus plays Phineas Mason / Tinkerer,[41][12] and Michael Barbieri plays one of Parker’s friends.[42][43] Kenneth Choi, who previously played Jim Morita in the MCU, plays Parker’s high school principal.[44] Hannibal Buress plays the school’s gym teacher, which he described as “one of the dumbass characters that don’t realize [Parker is] Spider-Man”.[45][46] Martin Starr, who previously had a non-speaking role in The Incredible Hulk identified as Amadeus Cho by the novelization for that film,[47] appears as a teacher who is also the academic decathlon coach.[48][49] Isabella Amara, Jorge Lendeborg Jr., J. J. Totah,[50]Selenis Leyva,[51] Abraham Attah,[52] Michael Mando,[53] Garcelle Beauvais, Tiffany Espensen,[54] Angourie Rice,[55] Martha Kelly,[56]and Jona Xiao are cast in unspecified roles.[57] Spider-Man co-creator Stan Lee has a cameo appearance,[58] while Chris Evans cameos as Steve Rogers / Captain America.[59]

Elenco e personagens

(E:D) Tom Holland, Laura Harrier, Tony Revolori, Jacob Batalon, Zendaya e o diretor Jon Watts promovendo Spider-Man: Homecoming na San Diego Comic Con International 2016.

Development

“We want to play with Spider-Man in the high school years because frankly there’ve been five Spider-Man films and… there are so many things from the comics that haven’t been done yet. Not just characters or villains or supporting characters, but sides to his character… I think it was midway through the first film that he graduated high school. At the beginning of the second Marc Webb film, he graduated high school. And some of my favorite Spider-Man arcs and Spider-Man stories, he’s in high school for a lot of it. We want to explore that. That also makes him very, very different from any of our other characters in the MCU…”

Kevin Feige, President of Marvel Studios[60]

Following the November 2014 hacking of Sony’s computers, emails between Sony Pictures Entertainment Co-Chairman Amy Pascal and president Doug Belgrad were released stating that Sony wanted Marvel Studios to produce a new trilogy of Spider-Man films while Sony retained “creative control, marketing and distribution”. Discussions between Sony and Marvel broke down, and Sony planned to proceed with its own slate of Spider-Man films.[61] However, in February 2015, Sony Pictures and Marvel Studios announced that they would release a new Spider-Man film with Kevin Feige and Pascal producing. The character would first appear in an earlier Marvel Cinematic Universe film,[62] later revealed to be Captain America: Civil War.[63] Marvel Studios would explore opportunities to integrate MCU characters into future Spider-Man films, which Sony Pictures would continue to finance, distribute, and have final creative control over.[62] Lone Star Funds also co-financed the film with Sony, via its LSC Film Corporation deal.[64]

Feige stated that Marvel had been working to add Spider-Man to the Marvel Cinematic Universe since at least October 2014, when they announced their full slate of Phase Three films, saying, “Marvel doesn’t announce anything officially until it’s set in stone. So we went forward with that Plan A in October, with the Plan B being, if [the deal] were to happen with Sony, how it would all shift. We’ve been thinking about [the Spider-Man film] as long as we’ve been thinking about Phase Three.”[65] It was revealed that Avi Arad and Matt Tolmach, producers for director Marc Webb‘s Amazing Spider-Man series, would serve as executive producers,[66] and that neither Webb nor Amazing Spider-Man actor Andrew Garfield would return for the film.[67] Sony was reportedly looking for an actor younger than Garfield to play Spider-Man,[66] with Logan Lerman and Dylan O’Brien considered front-runners to take the role.[68]

In March 2015, Drew Goddard was being considered to write and direct the film,[69][70] while O’Brien said he had not been approached for the role.[71] Goddard, who was previously attached to Sony’s film based on the Sinister Six, later said he declined to work on the new film as he thought he “didn’t really have an idea” for it, adding “it’s very hard to say, ‘Ok, now write a new movie,'” after spending a year working on the Sinister Six film and being in that mindset.[72] The next month, while promoting Avengers: Age of Ultron, Feige said the character of Peter Parker would be around 15 to 16 years old in the film,[60] which would not be an origin story since “there have been two retellings of that origin in the last [thirteen years, so] we are going to take it for granted that people know that, and the specifics.”[65]Parker’s Uncle Ben is referenced in the film.[73] Later in April, Nat Wolff, Asa Butterfield, Tom Holland, Timothée Chalamet, and Liam James were under consideration by Sony and Marvel to play Spider-Man,[74] with Holland and Butterfield the front-runners.[75]

In May 2015, Jonathan Levine, Ted Melfi, Jason Moore, John Francis Daley, Jonathan Goldstein, and Jared Hess were being considered to direct the film.[76] Butterfield, Holland, Judah Lewis, Matthew Lintz, Charlie Plummer, and Charlie Rowe screen tested for the lead role against Robert Downey Jr., who portrays Tony Stark / Iron Man in the MCU, for “chemistry”.[77][78] The six were chosen out of a search of over 1,500 actors to test in front of Feige, Pascal, and the Russo brothers, the directors of Captain America: Civil War.[78] By early June 2015, Levine and Melfi became the favorites to direct the film, with Daley, Goldstein, and Jon Watts also in consideration,[79] while Feige and Pascal narrowed the actors considered to Holland and Rowe, with both screen testing with Downey again. Holland also tested with Chris Evans, who portrays Steve Rogers / Captain America in the MCU, and emerged as the favorite.[77] On June 23, Marvel and Sony officially confirmed that Holland would star as Spider-Man, and that Watts would direct the film.[6] The Russos “were pretty vocal about who [they] wanted for the part”, pushing to cast an actor close to the age of Peter Parker in order to differentiate from the previous portrayals. They also praised Holland for having a dancing and gymnastics background.[63] Watts was on the Civil War set for the filming of Spider-Man’s scenes, in order to “see what they were doing with it” and provide “ideas about this and that.”[80] On joining the MCU and directing the film, Watts said, “I was really excited about that, because the other movies have shown what I described as the Penthouse level of the Marvel world, what it’s like to be Thor, Iron Man, you know, a billionaire playboy and all of that stuff. But what’s great about Spider-Man is that he’s a regular kid and so by showing his story you also get to show what the ground level is like in a world where the Avengers exist”.[15]

Feige said the films of John Hughes would be a major influence and that Parker’s personal growth and development would be just as important as his role as Spider-Man. He noted that at that age, in high school, everything feels like life or death.” He also said that the film hoped to use one of Spider-Man’s rogues that have not been seen in film yet,[81] and that filming would begin in June 2016.[82] In July 2015, it was reported that Marisa Tomei had been offered the role of May Parker, Peter’s aunt.[23] It was also revealed that Daley and Goldstein, after missing out on the director role, had begun negotiations to write the screenplay,[83] with both confirming shortly after that they had reach a deal to do so.[84] In October 2015, Watts said he was looking to make the film a coming-of-age story to see the growth of Parker, citing Say Anything…, Almost Famous, and Can’t Buy Me Love as some of his favorite films in that genre.[85] In December, Oliver Scholl signed on to be the production designer for the film.[86]

Desenvolvimento

Pre-production

In January 2016, Sony shifted the film’s release date from July 28 to July 7, 2017,[87] and revealed that the film would be digitally remastered for IMAX 3D in post-production.[88] J. K. Simmons expressed interest in reprising his role as J. Jonah Jameson from Sam Raimi‘s Spider-Man films.[89] In early March, Zendaya was cast in the film as Michelle, while Tomei was confirmed as May Parker.[90][24] The following month, Feige confirmed that characters from previous MCU films would appear,[91]and noted that the deal formed with Sony does not specifically denote which characters can and cannot crossover between the franchises,[92] saying the sharing between the studios was done with “good faith” in order “to have more toys to play with as we put together a story.”[1] Feige expanded on the relationship between Sony and Marvel Studios, saying, “The agreement was that it is very much a Sony Pictures movie… we are the creative producers. We are the ones hiring the actor, introducing him in [Captain America: Civil War], and then working right now on the script and soon to be shooting”.[92] Sony Pictures chairman Thomas Rothman further added that Sony has final greenlight authority, but are deferring creatively to Marvel.[93]

Also in April, at CinemaCon 2016, Sony announced the title of the film to be Spider-Man: Homecoming,[3][94] with Rothman explaining that it was both a reference to homecoming, a common high school tradition in the United States, and to the character returning to Marvel by joining the MCU.[94] Tony Revolori and Laura Harrier joined the cast as classmates of Parker’s,[95][34] while Downey Jr. was confirmed to appear in the film as Stark.[28][96] Michael Keaton entered talks to play a villain,[97] but dropped out of discussions to join the film shortly thereafter due to scheduling conflicts with The Founder.[98][99]However, Keaton soon reentered talks for the role after a change in schedule for that film,[100][99] and closed the deal in late May.[100] In June, Michael Barbieri was cast as a friend of Parker’s,[42][43] Kenneth Choi was cast as Parker’s high school principal,[44] and Logan Marshall-Green was cast as another villain alongside Keaton’s character,[39][53] while Donald Glover and Martin Starr joined the cast in undisclosed roles.[21][48] Regarding the diverseness of the cast, Watts said that since the film is set in Queens, “one of [the] most diverse places in the world… I just wanted [the cast] to reflect what that actually looks like.”[80] Feige added, “As the comics have done, we want everyone to recognize themselves in every portion of our universe. With…[this cast] especially, it really feels like this is absolutely what has to happen and continue.”[35] Feige added that this would help differentiate the film from previous iterations, which had all “been set in a lily-white Queens”.[101]

Marvel made a conscious decision to not include or reference any characters who had appeared in previous Spider-Man films outside Peter and May Parker, and Flash Thompson, including The Daily Bugle. On the latter’s exclusion, co-producer Eric Hauserman Carroll said, “We toyed with it for a while, but again, we didn’t want to go down that road right away, and if we do do a Daily Bugle, we want to do it in a way that feels contemporary.”[73] Spider-Man’s costume in the film has more technical improvements than previous suits, including the logo on the chest being a remote drone, an AI system similar to Stark’s J.A.R.V.I.S., a holographic interface, a parachute, a tracking device for Stark to track Parker, a heater, an airbag, the ability to light up, and the ability to augment reality with the eye pieces. Stark also builds in a “training wheels” protocol, to initially limit Parker’s access to all of its features. Carroll noted Marvel went through the comics and “pull[ed] out all the sort of fun and wacky things the suit did” to include in the Homecoming suit.[102] Spider-Man’s web shooter have various settings, first teased at the end of Civil War, which Carroll explained, “he can adjust the spray, and he can even scroll through different web settings, like spinning web, web ball, ricochet web… you know, all of the stuff we can see him do in the comics… It’s kind of like a DSLR camera. He can shoot without it, or he can hold that thing a second, get his aiming right, and really choose a web to shoot.”[73]

Eu adoro.

Escolha do elenco

Spider-Man: Homecoming
Tom Holland.

No dia 12, o site Birth.Movies.

Filming

Principal photography began on June 20, 2016,[103] at Pinewood Atlanta Studios in Fayette County, Georgia,[104] under the working titleSummer of George.[105] Salvatore Totino served as director of photography.[106] Filming also took place at Grady High School in Atlanta,[107] Downtown Atlanta,[108] the Atlanta Marriott Marquis,[109]and Atlanta’s West End neighborhood.[110] Holland said building New York sets in Atlanta was cheaper than actually filming in New York, a location closely associated with the character, though the production may “end up [in New York] for one week or two.”[111] Casting continued after the start of production, with the inclusion of Isabella Amara, Jorge Lendeborg Jr., J. J. Totah,[50] Hannibal Buress,[45] Selenis Leyva,[51]Abraham Attah,[52] Michael Mando,[53] Tyne Daly,[22] Garcelle Beauvais, Tiffany Espensen,[54] and Angourie Rice in unspecified roles,[55] while Bokeem Woodbine joined as an additional villain for the film.[38]

At San Diego Comic-Con International 2016, Marvel confirmed the castings of Keaton, Zendaya, Glover, Harrier, Revolori, Daly and Woodbine, while revealing Zendaya, Harrier, and Revolori’s roles as Michelle, Liz Allan and Thompson, respectively,[31][18][19][35] and announcing the casting of Jacob Batalon as Ned.[31][32] It was also revealed that the Vulture would be the film’s villain, while the writing teams of Watts & Christopher Ford and Chris McKenna & Erik Sommers joined Goldstein & Daley in writing the screenplay,[31] from Goldstein & Daley’s story. Harrier noted that the young actors in the film “constantly refer to ourselves as The Breakfast Club.”[18] Shortly after, Martha Kelly joined the cast in an unspecified role.[56] In August, Michael Chernus was cast as Phineas Mason / Tinkerer,[41] while Jona Xiao joined the cast in an unspecified role,[57] and Buress revealed he was playing a gym teacher in the film.[46] In September 2016, it was revealed that Jon Favreau would reprise his role as Happy Hogan from the Iron Man series,[16] and filming concluded in Atlanta and moved to New York City. Locations in the latter included Astoria, Queens, St. George, Staten Island, Manhattan,[112][113][114] and Franklin K. Lane High School in Brooklyn.[73] Additionally, UFC fighter Tyron Woodley revealed he had been considered for a villain role in the film, but had to drop out due to a prior commitment with Fox Sports.[115] Principal photography wrapped on October 2, 2016, in New York City,[116] with some additional filming commencing later in the month in Berlin, Germany, near the Brandenburg Gate.[117]

Filmagens

Post-production

In November 2016, Feige confirmed that Keaton would play the Vulture,[118] the Adrian Toomes incarnation of the character,[13] while Woodbine was revealed as Herman Schultz / Shocker.[119][15] In March 2017, Harrier revealed the film was undergoing reshoots,[120]and it was revealed that Chris Evans would appear in a cameo as Steve Rogers / Captain America in an instructional fitness video.[59]Watts confirmed that the company Stark creates that leads Toomes on his villainous path in the film is Damage Control, which Watts felt “just fit in with our overall philosophy with the kind of story we wanted to tell” and created a lot of practical questions Watts wanted to use “to drive the story”. Watts also confirmed the film would have a post-credit scene.[30] The following month, Starr explained that he was playing the academic decathlon coach at Parker’s high school,[49] and Marshall-Green was said to be portraying another Shocker in the film.[40]

Music

While promoting Doctor Strange in early November 2016, Feige accidentally revealed that Michael Giacchino, who composed the music for that film, would be composing the score for Homecoming as well. Giacchino soon confirmed this himself.[121] Recording for the soundtrack began on April 11, 2017.[122] The score will include the theme from the 1960s cartoon series.[123] The soundtrack will be released by Sony Masterworks on July 7, 2017.[124]

Giacchino logo o confirmou.[41]

Marketing

Watts, Holland, Batalon, Harrier, Revolori, and Zendaya appeared at the 2016 San Diego Comic-Con to show an exclusive clip of the film,[31][128] which also had a panel at Comic Con Experience 2016.[129] The first trailer for Homecoming premiered on Jimmy Kimmel Live! on December 8, 2016.[130] Two versions were released, the one that debuted on Jimmy Kimmel Live! and an international version, with some different shots and dialogue. Feige thought there was enough of a difference between the two that “it would be fun for people to see both.”[13]

On March 28, 2017, a second trailer debuted, after the footage had been screened at CinemaCon 2017 the night before.[131] Shawn Robbins, chief analyst at BoxOffice.com, noted that despite “more Twitter mentions” for the Justice League trailer also released in the same week as Homecomings second trailer, “the sentiment scores [for Justice League] are very modest compared to clearer enthusiasm for Spider-Man.” The Homecoming trailer was second for the week of March 20-26 in new conversations (85,859) behind Justice League (201,267), according comScore‘s PreAct service, which is “a tracking service utilizing social data to create context of the ever-evolving role of digital communication on feature films”, thought it was first in cumulative conversations with 1,232,628.[132] An exclusive clip from the film was seen during the 2017 MTV Movie & TV Awards.[133]

In late May 2017, Sony and Marvel released a third domestic and international trailer.[134] Ethan Anderton of /Film enjoyed both trailers, stating Homecoming “has the potential to be the best Spider-Man movie yet. Having the webslinger as part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe just feels right”.[135] TechCrunch‘s Darrell Etherington agreed, despite having initial reservations that the two trailers would only feature slight differences (the domestic focuses on Spider-Man’s suit, while the international on the film’s premise), noting, “You may have feelings about a tech-heavy Spider-Man suit or other aspects of this interpretation of the character, but it’s still shaping up to be better than any Spider-Man depicted in movies in recent memory.”[136] Ana Dumaraog for ScreenRant said, “Whereas the second Spider-Man: Homecoming trailer arguably showed too much of the movie’s overarching narrative, this new trailer perfectly shows the right amount of new and old footages, with some extended scenes from previously-released snippets of the film.” She also appreciated the attention to detail the trailers highlighted that Watts and the writers put into the film.[137] Siddhant Adlakha of Birth.Movies.Death disagreed with Dumaraog, feeling the trailers gave away too many details,[138] but enjoyed them overall, especially the “vlogging” aspect of the international trailer.[139] Collider‘s Dave Trombore expressed similar sentiments to Adlakha, feeling “Sony/Marvel are giving away everything for free” in the trailers, but did enjoy the vlogging aspect of the international trailer, calling it “the cleverer of the two”.[140]comScore and its PreAct service noted 175,000 new conversations for the film after the trailers released, the most for the week. The service also noted Spider-Man: Homecoming produced a total of 1.87 million new conversations to date.[141]

Alongside the release of the third trailers were domestic and international release posters.[134] The domestic poster was criticized for its “floating head” style,[142][138] which offers “a chaotic mess of people looking in different directions, with little sense of what the film will deliver.”[142] Dan Auty for GameSpot called it a “star studded hot mess”,[142] while Vanity Fairs Katey Rich felt the poster was “too bogged down by the many different threads of the Marvel universe to highlight anything that’s made Spider-Man: Homecoming seem special so far.”[143] Adlakha felt the posters released for the film “have been alright thus far, but these ones probably tell general audiences to expect a very bloated movie.” Adlakha was more positive on the international poster, as he felt it was more “comicbook-y” and “looks like it could be an actual scene from the film.”[138] Both Rich and Adlakha criticized the fact that Holland, Keaton and Downey appeared twice on the domestic poster, both in and out of costume.[143][138]

Sony also partnered with the NBA to create cross-promotional television ads for Homecoming and the 2017 NBA Finals. The first promo sees Hogan talking to Stark about a guest list for an NBA Finals viewing party, with Stark asking Hogan to invite “the kid” (Parker).[144]A second promo sees Hogan sending Parker to get snacks for Tim Duncan. While out, Parker encounters a robbery, upset it is preventing him from watching the Finals. Stan Lee also cameos in the promo.[145]From May 29 until July 15, 2017, to commemorate the Japanese release of Homecoming, a limited-time themed cafe opened in the Roppongi Hills complex of Tokyo.[146] While the interior decor features imagery of Spider-Man, the cafe offers menu items inspired by the superhero, including Spider Curry, Spider Sense Latte and a Strawberry Spider Squash drink, as well as a free, limited-edition sticker with any purchase.[147] A tie-in comic, Spider-Man: Homecoming Prelude, is scheduled to be released on June 20, 2017, collecting two prelude issues.[148]

Reception

In May 2017, a survey from Fandango indicated that Homecoming was the second-most anticipated summer blockbuster behind Wonder Woman.[149]

Box office projection

In May 2017, BoxOffice projected the film to earn $135 million in its opening weekend in the United States and Canada, and $325 million for its total domestic gross.[150]

Sequel

In June 2016, Rothman stated that Sony and Marvel were committed to making future Spider-Man films.[93] By October 2016, discussions had begun for a second film, according to Holland, figuring out “who the villain is going to be and where we’re going” in a potential sequel.[151] In December 2016, after the successful release of the first Homecoming trailer, Sony slated a sequel to the film for July 5, 2019.[152] Feige had stated that if additional films were made, an early idea Marvel had for them was to follow the model of the Harry Potter film series, having the plot of each film cover a new school year;[153]the first sequel is intended to follow Parker’s junior year of high school, with a potential third film being set during his senior year.[110]

Claro. Spider-Man: Homecoming

Development

Michael Bay announced that the film will be his last Transformers film.

In March 2015, Deadline.com reported that Paramount Pictures was in talks with Oscar winner Akiva Goldsman (A Beautiful Mind) to pitch new ideas for the Transformers franchise’s future installments. The studio intends to do what James Cameron and 20th Century Fox have been doing to spawn three new Avatar sequels, and what Disney is doing to revive Star Wars with sequels and spin-offs. Paramount wants to have their own cinematic universe for Transformers similar to Marvel‘s/Disney‘s Marvel Cinematic Universe (one of Paramount’s previous film series) and Warner Bros.DC Extended Universe. Goldsman will be the head of the future projects and will work with franchise director Michael Bay, executive producer Steven Spielberg, and producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura to organize a “writer’s room” that will incubate ideas for potential Transformers sequels, prequels and spin-offs. The writer’s room members include: Christina Hodson, Lindsey Beer, Andrew Barrer, and Gabriel Ferrari, (Ant-Man), Robert Kirkman (The Walking Dead), Art Marcum & Matt Holloway, Zak Penn (Pacific Rim: Uprising), Jeff Pinkner (The Amazing Spider-Man 2), Ken Nolan, and Geneva Robertson-Dworet.[53] Kirkman left the room after just one day to undergo throat surgery.[54] In July 2015, Akiva Goldsman & Jeff Pinkner were announced as the film’s screenwriters.[55] However, on November 20, due to Goldsman’s commitments creating a writer’s room for G.I. Joe and Micronauts properties, Paramount began to negotiate with Art Marcum and Matt Holloway (Iron Man), as well as Ken Nolan (Black Hawk Down), to write the film. Writers Lindsey Beer and Geneva Robertson-Dworet were also brought aboard for writing duties.[56]

“I think I brought the concern to the movie studio and certainly to the writers. Perhaps…Transformers 5 and 6 movies will go back more to its roots. There was an occasion where one line [in Transformers: Age of Extinction] which Optimus Prime had, I did not want to say. It was my gut instinct and certainly my commitment to the character… not to say the line. But I was told to say. You can’t fight the big boys. I think you all know what that line was.”

Peter Cullen on a question from a fan on the future of the franchise from Sac-Anime 2015[57]

After Transformers: Age of Extinction, Bay had decided not to direct any future Transformers films. But in early January 2016, in an interview with Rolling Stone, he confirmed that he would return to direct the fifth film, and that it would be his last Transformers film.[58] Paramount Pictures will spend $80 million on production in Michigan in return for $21 million in state incentives under agreements entered into before the state legislature eliminated the film office incentive program in July 2015.[59]In April 2016, Paramount hired cinematographer Jonathan Sela.[60] On May 17, Bay revealed the official title of the film to be The Last Knight on his Instagram account, along with a production video showing a close-up of what is presumably Optimus Prime’s face with purple eyes instead of blue, and his face mostly discolored.[61] The official Twitter account shows a 19-second short video in morse code that translates to “I’m coming for you May 31”.[62] On May 31, it was revealed that Megatron will be returning for the sequel.[36]

Casting

In December 2014, Mark Wahlberg confirmed that he would return for the sequel.[63] In February 2016, there were casting calls for new lead and supporting roles in Los Angeles and London, as well Peter Cullen returning to voice Optimus Prime.[64] Approximately 850 cast and crew will be hired, 450 of whom will be Michigan residents equating to 228 full-time positions.[65] Additionally, 700 extras will be hired from among Detroit residents as part of Paramount’s incentive deal with the state.[66] On April 13, TheWrap reported that Isabela Moner was in talks to star as Izabella.[8] The site also reports that Bay is eyeing Jean Dujardin, Stephen Merchant, and Jerrod Carmichael for supporting roles.[67][68] On May 17, 2016, it was confirmed that Josh Duhamel would reprise his role in the film and Jerrod Carmichael was cast.[10][22] In June 2016, Anthony Hopkins, Mitch Pileggi, Santiago Cabrera, and Laura Haddock joined the cast; and Tyrese Gibson confirmed that he will be returning as Robert Epps.[11][12][23][14][16] In August 2016, Liam Garrigan was confirmed to reprise his role as King Arthur, a different version from the television series Once Upon a Time.[21] On September 4, 2016, Stanley Tucci confirmed his return.[7]On October 14, 2016, Bay announced that John Turturro would be reprising his role as Seymour Simmons from the first three films, as well as John Goodman, who will return to voice Hound.[13] A Month before the film’s release, Bay reveals that the character Cogman would be voiced by Downtown Abbey actor, Jim Carter, where it was requested by co-writer Matt Holloway who happens to be a fan of the series.[69]

Filming

Alnwick Castle in Alnwick, Northumberland, one of the many locations used in the film.

Principal photography began on May 25, 2016, in Havana, Cuba, with a few scenes shot by a “small team”.[70][71][72]Filming continued on June 6, 2016, in Phoenix, Arizona, and on June 19, 2016, in Detroit, Michigan under the working title E75,[64][65][73]with additional filming took place in Chicago, Illinois.[74] In Detroit, filming took place in the Michigan Motion Pictures Studio, Packard Plant, Michigan Central Station, Cafe D’Mongo’s Speakeasy, and MGM Grand Detroit.[75] Production moved to Europe on August 21, and filming commenced on August 22 in Scotland, Wales, North Yorkshire Newcastle upon Tyne and Northumberland. Filming took place in London and Stonehenge in England, Ireland, Preikestolen, Trolltunga and Atlanterhavsveien in Norway between August and October.[76][77][78]

In early September 2016, filming took place in Alnwick Castle in Alnwick Northumberland in England including car chase scenes.[79]Production continued at St Aidan’s Church, Seahouses where Walhberg spent an hour inside the church and reportedly donated £200. Rev Father Des McGiven said: “I didnt even know he was in church until he left, one of my parishoners Danielle Love recognised him and explained who he was, its great that we had him in for the service and appreciate his generosity towards our church.” Car chases were also filmed at the monument area of Newcastle upon Tyne, where Josh Duhamel was filming while Wahlberg and Sir Anthony Hopkins continued at Alnwick, Seahouses and the Bamburgh Region of Northumberland.[80] In late September 2016 filming was spotted in Gosport, Hampshire at the Royal Navy Submarine Museum. On October 5, 2016 filming was spotted at St Bartholomew-the-Great, London. London filming wrapped on October 27, 2016.[81] Principal photography wrapped on December 4, 2016.[82]

Effects

As with previous Transformers installments, Industrial Light & Magic will serve as the main visual effects company for Transformers: The Last Knight. In early 2016, the company showed Bay an underwater rendering of a crash-landed alien spaceship and a new dump-truck Transformer with a cloak.[58]

Music

On September 27, it was confirmed that Steve Jablonsky will return to write the score, having composed the music of the first four films.[1]

Release

Transformers: The Last Knight is scheduled to be released on June 21, 2017, having been moved up from its original June 23 release date.[83][84][85] The teaser trailer of the film was released on December 5, 2016 and was attached to Rogue One.[86]

Marketing

The first teaser trailer on Monday, December 5, during ESPN‘s Monday Night Football was shortly released online thereafter. With 24 hours of its release, the trailer garnered a record breaking 93.6 million views from various social media platforms, such as Facebook, YouTube, Twitter and Instagram, making it the third highest-viewed trailer of 2016, falling behind Disney’s Beauty and the Beast remake (127.6 million views) and Universal’s Fifty Shades Darker (114 million views in 24 hours), but surpassing Marvel Studios’ Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 trailer, which scored 81 million views in its first 24 hours online.[87] Following the trailer’s release, the film trended on all major social media sites, including YouTube, Facebook, Twitter, and Reddit. It was Weibo‘s No. 1 trending topic in China, where the preview was viewed 16 million times its first day of release.[88] TV spots for the filmed started airing ahead of the Super Bowl spot on February 3, 2017. An extended trailer aired during Super Bowl LI on February 5, 2017.[89] On March 11, 2017, a new TV spot and the first clip was shown at Nick’s KCA. On March 16, 2017, a new trailer aired during release of the live-action Beauty and the Beast remake, while the third trailer was released on April 13, 2017.[90]

Controversy

Nazi iconography

Blenheim Palace, where former Britain’s wartime Prime Minister Sir Winston Churchill was born was draped in huge Nazi flags.

On September 21, 2016, shooting for a particular scene took place in Blenheim Palace, Woodstock, Oxfordshire in England, home of World War II British Prime Minister Sir Winston Churchill. However, the mansion was dressed as a Nazi swastika-draped headquarters for Adolf Hitler for filming. This evoked both anger and criticism for being “symbolically disrespectful to Churchill” according to Colonel Richard Kemp, who said Churchill “will be turning in his grave,”[3] while Tony Hayes of the UK Veterans Association claimed that surviving World War II ex-servicemen and women would be “appalled”.[91] The Sun published numerous pictures from the set. War veterans further attacked filmmakers for turning the historic palace into a headquarters for Hitler.[3] Besides the Nazi swastika flags, The Sun reported that the set featured actors in Nazi troop costumes and German tanks.[92]Churchill was buried less than a mile away at St Martin’s Church, Bladon.[93]

Distributor Paramount Pictures and UK-based High Command Productions, which handled the productions of the palace, did not immediately respond to a request for comment, but Bay addressed the controversy two days later on Friday while speaking to the BBC, defending the act; “People have not been fortunate enough to read the script and they don’t know that Churchill in this movie is a big hero, he would be smiling.” Bay added, “When you see the movie you’ll understand. I for one, probably more than any director in the world, have shot more veterans and more active military men and women in my movies. You can actually look it up. I would do nothing to disrespect veterans.”[93][94] Nicholas Soames, grandson of Churchill, defended the filmmakers by describing the fallout as “a completely manufactured row” and “absolutely the most dismal, idiotic story I’ve ever read”.[95][96] He replied to Colonel Kemps’ comment quoted by The Sun, saying, “They do as all newspapers do. They go until they can find some wretched veteran who is prepared to say, “Winston would be turning into his grave.” They’ve no idea what my grandfather would have thought!.”[95]

Filmmakers spent a reported £10,000 ($13,000) per day for the fortnight shooting.[3] The house, which is open to the public, is owned by a distant relative of Winston Churchill, Jamie Spencer-Churchill, 12th Duke of Marlborough.[91]

Sequel and spin-off

A Bumblebee spin-off and a sequel, Transformers 7, are set to be released on June 8, 2018, and June 28, 2019, respectively.[83][97]

Cast

Production

Universal Studios first announced plans for a modern day reboot of The Mummy franchise in 2012.[16][17] The project went through multiple directors with first Len Wiseman leaving the project in 2013,[18] and then a second director, Andrés Muschietti, leaving in 2014.[19][10]

Tom Cruise began talks about playing the lead in November 2015,[7]with Sofia Boutella beginning talks that December.[8] Kurtzman cast Boutella after seeing and being impressed by her largely mute performance in Kingsman: The Secret Service. Kurtzman also noted that “if you look at her eyes, and this is what I got from watching Kingsman, there’s a whole performance going on here. And in not saying anything but conveying that much to me, I thought oh my god, no matter how much prosthetics we put on her, no matter how much CG we put on her face, if I see this, she’s going to convey something very emotional to me.”[20] Other casting news was announced between March and May with Russell Crowe joining during the latter month.[9][15][12][13][21][22]

Desenvolvimento

Filming

Principal photography on the film began on April 3, 2016, in Oxford, United Kingdom.[23][24] It was also filmed in Surrey.[25] Filming on the movie wrapped on July 17, 2016, in London.[26] Production then moved to Namibia for two weeks with principal photography on the film being completed on August 13, 2016.[27]

Filmagens

Release

Initially scheduled for a 2016 release,[28][29] the film instead will be released on June 9, 2017 in 3D, 2D and IMAX 3D.[4][6]

On December 20, 2016, IMAX released a trailer with the wrong audio track attached, which unintentionally prompted the creation of memes and video montages featuring the mistakenly included audio track, which was missing most of the sound effects and instead featured Tom Cruise’s grunts and screams.[30] IMAX reacted by taking down the trailer and issuing DMCA takedown notices in an attempt to stop it from spreading.[31]

Development

In 2012, prior to the release of Prometheus, Director Ridley Scott began hinting at the prospects of a sequel. [23][24] Scott said that a sequel would follow Shaw to her next destination, “because if it is paradise, paradise cannot be what you think it is. Paradise has a connotation of being extremely sinister and ominous.” Writer Damon Lindelof cast doubt on his participation, and said, “if [Scott] wants me to be involved in something, that would be hard to say no to. At the same time, I do feel like [Prometheus] might benefit from a fresh voice or a fresh take or a fresh thought.”[25] Scott said that an additional film would be required to bridge the gap between the Prometheus sequel and Alien.[26]

As of August 1, 2012, Fox was pursuing a sequel with Scott, Noomi Rapace, and Michael Fassbender involved, and was talking to new writers in case Lindelof did not return. [27] In December 2012, Lindelof ultimately chose not to work on the project.[28] Early on Scott stated that the film would feature no xenomorphs, “The beast is done. Cooked.”[29] However Scott would make later statements that were contradictory, stating what is planned and confirming the xenomorphs’ presence in the film.[citation needed] and ultimately the movie does include the creatures.[30]

Meanwhile director Neill Blomkamp had been planning on filming his own movie in the Alien franchise, although he put the project on hold at the request of Scott is set to be a producer on that as-of-yet untitled film.[31] On September 24, Scott confirmed the film’s title as Alien: Paradise Lost.[32] In November 2015, Scott revealed the new title to be Alien: Covenant, with filming set to begin in February 2016 in Australia.[33] An official logo, synopsis and release date were released on November 16, 2015.[34]

Desenvolvimento

(L:R) Rooker, Pratt, Saldana, Gillan, Klementieff, Bautista, Debicki and Russell promoting Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 at the 2016 San Diego Comic Con International.

The half-human, half-alien leader of the Guardians of the Galaxy who was abducted from Earth as a child and raised by a group of alien thieves and smugglers called the Ravagers.[4][5] Describing where Quill is at the start of the film, Pratt said, “he’s famous now in the galaxy for having saved so many people… He feels like he’s part of this group, a leader of this group. He’s a little more responsible and trying to stay out of trouble, but not necessarily doing the best job.”[6] Pratt stated that working on the film forced him to come to terms with the death of his father.[7] Pratt returns as part of a multi-film contract with Marvel.[8]
A member of the Guardians who is an orphan from an alien world who seeks redemption for her past crimes. She was trained by Thanos to be his personal assassin.[5] Saldana described Gamora’s role in the team as “the voice of reason” saying, “She’s surrounded by all these dudes who are so stupid half the time,”[9]and added that she is the “Mom” of the team, saying that she is “just a meticulous, detailed, professional individual.”[10] Regarding Gamora’s relationship with Nebula, Saldana described it as “volatile” and added, “we’re starting somewhere very crazy but appropriate given where we had ended things off in the first” film.[11]
A member of the Guardians and highly skilled warrior in search for vengeance against Thanos for killing his family.[5] Bautista opted to wait for the final version of the script, rather than earlier drafts, in order to be surprised by the story and not take “away from the magic” or “put a damper on it”, which he felt happened when he read the script for the first film.[12] Describing how Drax has progressed from the first film, Bautista called him “more funny, driven” and having “a sense of innocence and heartbreak about him”,[9] despite “most people’s first perception of Drax [that] he’s just a big, muscly brute, and he’s just going to go in and be an all-action character.” He also added that the Guardians “become more of a solid family” in the film, with Drax getting “closer and more caring with the other Guardians”.[13] Bautista’s makeup took only 90 minutes to apply, down from four hours for the first film. He added that he would have to sit in a sauna at the end of the day to get the makeup off, after his makeup test found it too “abrasive”.[10]
A member of the Guardians who is a tree-like humanoid and the accomplice of Rocket.[14] Diesel also provided Groot’s voice for sixteen foreign-language releases of the film, up from six in the first film.[15] As Groot is smaller in the film than in the first and known as “Baby Groot”,[16] executive producer Jonathan Schwartz said, “He doesn’t have the wisdom and experience of that Groot. He’s a younger Groot and a more rambunctious Groot.” Schwartz also stated the film would examine if he was “the same Groot, just smaller? Or is he a different Groot that’s sprung up from the seed of the first Groot?”[17] Diesel added that Baby Groot “couldn’t be more naive” and felt the Groot seen in the first film was “a college level Groot. He’s not fully grown yet, but he’s a man… now he has to start all over, so to speak. So we’re going to see this goofy, adorable, baby Groot thing running around the screen. Just kinda learning as he goes.”[18] Director and writer James Gunn felt Baby Groot was “a better-written character than the first Groot in some ways” and a “more complete character” because of a larger awareness to the character during filming, opposed to the first film where Gunn and the cast “just kind of always forgot he was there” with the stand-in actor not having the same presence that Sean Gunn did portraying Rocket.[19] Regarding Groot’s previous memories, Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige added, “He remembers. He’s not mentally a baby, he is still Groot… I sort of equate it to Spock circa the end of [Star Trek III: The Search for Spock] and [Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home].”[20] However James Gunn later clarified that Baby Groot does not have any of his previous memories.[21] The idea for Baby Groot came during the filming of the first film, as a reverse of the shot with Rocket standing on Groot’s shoulder. James Gunn felt Baby Groot was “a more complete character” and “better-written” than Groot in the first film.[2] Prop master Russell Bobbitt created a 1:1 scale model of the 10-inch (25 cm) Baby Groot for filming to use “as a lighting reference and sometimes puppeteered against the actors during the filming of scenes.”[22] As Groot only communicates with the phrase “I am Groot” in different inflections, Gunn created a “Groot Version” of the script for himself and Diesel, which contains each of Groot’s lines in English.[23]
A member of the Guardians who is a genetically engineered raccoon-based bounty hunter and mercenary, and also a master of weapons and battle tactics.[5] Sean Gunn once again serves as the stand-in for the character during filming,[24] stating that, similar to the first film, “Rocket has the same sort of crisis of faith about whether or not he belongs in this family.”[25] James Gunn added, “this is really about Rocket coming to terms with accepting his place within a group of people, which probably seemed like a good idea for two seconds when they were kind of getting along and saving the planet, and now’s it’s like, he’s just not very comfortable with the idea with being a part of this group.” Feige stated that the relationship between Rocket and Groot has changed, saying, “Whereas Groot was Rocket’s protector in the first movie, Rocket is Groot’s protector.”[10]
A blue-skinned buccaneer who is the leader of the Ravagers, a fatherly figure to Quill,[26] and member of the Guardians.[27] Yondu has a larger head fin in the film, bringing the character’s look closer to his comic counterpart.[28]
An adopted daughter of Thanos who was raised with Gamora as siblings,[29] and a member of the Guardians.[11] Despite being a member of the Guardians team, Gunn cautioned, “With Nebula, well, you never know what’s up with that one.”[27] Gunn stated the production team may have figured out a way for Gillan not to have to shave her head for the role, unlike in the first film,[30] for which Gillan noted her appreciation in not having to do.[28] Gillan revealed she only had to shave half of her head for the film, taking away the underneath part and leaving the top.[31] Gillan’s makeup took two and a half hours to apply, down from five hours for the first film.[22] Gillan stated the film would further explore the sisterly relationship between Nebula and Gamora,[32] including their backstory “and what happened to these two girls growing up and actually how awful it was for them and how it’s ruined their relationship”,[10] adding “we’re [also] going to start to see how much pain [Thanos] actually caused [Nebula]… we really start to see the emotional crack in her character”.[31]
A member of the Guardians with empathic powers who was raised by Ego.[6][17][33][34] Schwartz said the character “has never really experienced social interaction”, and “learns about dealing with people” and “social intricacies” from the other Guardians.[17]Klementieff added, “She was really lonely and by herself, so it’s a completely new thing to meet these people and to discover new things and new emotions and a new way of sharing things … I think it’s like a kid, you know? You discover things and you’re curious about things and you make mistakes and you say, like, weird things or you’re awkward.” Mantis and Drax also have an “interesting” relationship according to Feige, since “they’re both complete odd balls”.[10]
The leader of a mutinous group of the Ravagers.[35][37] Gunn originally posted a photo of the comic book character on his social media after landing Guardians of the Galaxy, calling him “the dumbest character of all time” and that he would never feature the character in a film. When it came time to craft this character, Gunn felt the character had named himself and decided on Taserface, and described him as “a real dumbass” as well as “a very powerful guy”.[38]
An ancient and mysterious cosmic being who is Quill’s father and raised Mantis.[28][35] Ego assumes a humanoid guise throughout the film instead of his customary planetary form from the comics,[42] since he has the ability “to manifest himself in different ways” by “control[ing] the molecules around him in such a way as to create avatars of themselves”.[43] Considering Russell for the role was suggested to Gunn by Pratt, as Gunn did not have Russell “in [his] head initially” for the role.[42] Ego was allowed to be used in the film after 20th Century Fox reached a deal with Marvel Studios to return the film rights of Ego for changing the power set of Negasonic Teenage Warhead, who Fox wanted to use in Deadpool (2016).[44] Gunn, who originally thought Marvel held the rights to the character, stated that had the deal with Fox not been made, there was “no back up plan, and it would [have been] nearly impossible to just drop another character in” given the extensive work done surrounding the character.[45] Aaron Schwartz portrays a younger version of Ego.[46]

Additionally, Glenn Close reprises her role as Irani Rael, Supreme Commander of the Nova Corps, known as Nova Prime.[47] Evan Jones, Jimmy Urine, Stephen Blackehart,[37] Steve Agee,[37][48] Mike Escamilla,[49] Joe Fria, Terence Rosemore,[37] and Tommy Flanagan,[50] portray Wretch, Half-Nut, Brahl, Gef the Ravager, Scrote, Oblo, Narblik, and Tullk respectively, all members of the Ravagers.[37][51] Michael Rosenbaum also appears, with his character working “in tandem” with Stallone’s.[41] Stan Lee has a cameo appearance,[52] while Rob Zombie once again has a voice cameo.[53]

Cinema 2.017 – The Fate of the Furious

The fate of furious

Velozes e furiosos 8

The Fate of the Furious (alternatively known as Fast 8 and Fast & Furious 8) is an upcoming 2017 American action film directed by F. Gary Gray and written by Chris Morgan. It is the eighth installment in The Fast and the Furious franchise. The film will star Vin Diesel, Dwayne Johnson, Jason Statham, Michelle Rodriguez, Tyrese Gibson, Chris Bridges, Nathalie Emmanuel, Kurt Russell, Scott Eastwood, Charlize Theron, Elsa Pataky and Helen Mirren.

The Fate of the Furious marks the first film of the franchise since The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift (2006) not to star Paul Walker, who died in a single-vehicle crash on November 30, 2013, during the filming of Furious 7 (2015).[2]

Plans for an eighth installment were first announced in March 2015 when Diesel appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live! and announced that the film would be set in New York City. Preparations for the film began immediately after the release of Furious 7 with Diesel, Morgan and producer Neal H. Moritz re-signing. After setting an initial release date in the same month, casting took place between April and June 2015. In October 2015, Gray, best known for directing Straight Outta Compton (2015), was announced to direct the film in the place of James Wan, who had directed the previous film. Principal photography began in March 2016 in locations such as Mývatn, Havana, Atlanta, Cleveland and New York City, continuing the franchise’s tradition of filming in different locations around the world.

The film is scheduled to be released on April 14, 2017.[3]

Development

Following the release of Furious 7 (2015), Vin Diesel said regarding a possible sequel:

I was trying to keep it close to the vest throughout the release. Paul Walker used to say that [an eighth film] was guaranteed. And in some ways, when your brother guarantees something, you sometimes feel like you have to make sure it comes to pass… so if fate has it, then you’ll get this when you hear about it. [Furious 7] was for Paul, [the eighth film] is from Paul.[6]

“We’re trying to do what we always do, which is try to come at it from a character point of view and figure out where the characters would go from here. I think the thing that’s made The Fast and the Furious special is obviously we have incredible action and so on. But the thing that people really relate to the most is the characters. We’re lucky that we have a lot of great characters. Unfortunately, we don’t have Paul [Walker] anymore. His character… has moved on. But we feel like there’s a lot still to be mined. That’s where we’re starting. We’re really talking about the characters, where they all sit right now. It’s a huge challenge”.

Neal H. Moritz, The Fate of the Furious producer[7]

Diesel further hinted at an eighth film on Jimmy Kimmel Live! when he stated that Kurt Russell‘s character had been introduced in a role that would span multiple films. He also stated that the film would take place in New York City.[8] Chris Morgan will write his sixth script in the franchise, while Neal H. Moritz returns to produce the film. Moritz later stated, “[The story] is going to have to be something enticing for all of us. It has to be as good as or better [than Furious 7]”.[9]

At the 2015 CinemaCon in Las Vegas, Diesel announced the film for an April 14, 2017 release date.[10][11] On August 16, 2015, at the 2015 Teen Choice Awards (where Furious 7 received the award for Choice Movie – Action and Walker received the award for Choice Movie Actor – Action), Diesel announced that the film would be titled Fast 8.[12] In September 2015, Diesel stated that the script had almost been completed[13] and expressed interest in Rob Cohen, who directed the first film, to direct Fast 8.[14] On October 14, 2015, Diesel announced on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon that Straight Outta Compton director F. Gary Gray would direct the film.[15][16] The film marks Diesel and Gray’s second work together, following A Man Apart (2003).[17]

In July 2015, Moritz said that Walker’s character, Brian O’Conner, would not appear in the film, following the use of CGI in the previous film after Walker died in a single-vehicle accident on November 30, 2013, with Moritz stating that his character had “moved on”.[7] It had previously been reported that Paul’s younger brother, Cody Walker, would either join the cast in a new role[18] or replace his older brother in the role of O’Conner,[19] however, it was later confirmed that he would not be returning to the franchise.[20] Moritz also said that the film would shift the focus of the franchise from a series of heist films to a spy caper, following a similar change in focus from street racing in Fast Five (2011).[21] In December 2016, the film was retitled The Fate of the Furious.[22]

Casting

Diesel, Russell, and Michelle Rodriguez were the first to confirm their involvement in the film, and Tyrese Gibson and Chris Bridges both confirmed their return soon after,[23] with Lucas Black having already signed on to reprise his role from The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift as Sean Boswell for Furious 7, and two more installments in September 2013.[24] In May 2015, Dwayne Johnson confirmed his involvement in the film, additionally hinting at a possible spin-off film involving his character, Luke Hobbs.[25] Jason Statham also confirmed his return.[26]

In April 2016, Charlize Theron and Kristofer Hivju were confirmed as additions to the cast in villainous roles,[27][28] while Scott Eastwood also joined the cast as a law enforcement agent.[29] On May 17, 2016, Diesel posted a photo on his Instagram page of himself and Elsa Pataky on set, indicating that she had also returned for the film,[30] and was followed two days later by a video on set with Nathalie Emmanuel, who also starred in the previous film.[31] In June 2016, Helen Mirren announced in an interview with Elle that she will be appearing in the film.[32]

On July 11, 2016, Don Omar tweeted that he and Tego Calderon will be returning to the franchise for the eighth picture.[33]

During an interview with Chris Mannix on July 21, 2016, Lucas Black confirmed he would not be appearing in the eighth installment due to scheduling conflicts.[34]

Moldagem

Filming

In keeping with the franchise’s penchant for filming in “exotic” locations, such as Dubai and Rio de Janeiro, in January 2016 it was announced that Universal was seeking approval from the United States and Cuban governments to shoot the film in Cuba.[35][36]Principal photography began on March 14, 2016, in Mývatn, Iceland,[37][38] where strong winds sent a plastic iceberg prop flying into a paddock and striking two horses. One was wounded and the other mortally injured; it was later euthanized.[39] In late April, filming began in Cuba’s capital city Havana.[40][41][42] In May, filming also took place in Cleveland, Ohio.[43][44] Franchise cinematographer, Stephen F. Windon, was confirmed to return for the eighth installment.[45]

Filming also took place in Atlanta and New York City.[46][not in citation given]

Filmagens

Music

Brian Tyler, who scored the third, fourth, fifth, and seventh installments, was tapped to compose the film score for the eight picture.[47] A soundtrack album by Atlantic Records is set to release on April 14, 2017, accompanying the film’s theatrical release.[48]

Production

On October 12, 2012, it was announced that New Line Cinema and Warner Bros. were developing a remake of 1979 heist comedy film Going in Style, with Theodore Melfi set to write the script.[9] Donald De Line was on board to produce the film with Tony Bill, producer of the original film, as executive producer.[9] Melfi was approached by De Line about writing the screenplay for the remake, but Melfi insisted on changing the ending to something more upbeat. Melfi explained, “In this modern era, and even for me, I don’t want to see a movie where my heroes whom I’ve been fighting for and rooting for for two hours die or go to jail. I want to see them get ahead, and it’s perfect for them to get ahead these days because everyone hates banks now. So let’s have them put the perfect heist together, rob a bank, get away with it, and go off into the sunset. They said, ‘Yes, let’s do that,’ and that’s how that script was born.”[10]

On January 9, 2013, Don Scardino was hired to direct the film.[11] On September 19, 2013, Melfi, who wrote the script was in talks to direct the film.[12] On November 19, 2014, it was revealed that Zach Braff was in talks with the studio to direct the film, however he was not officially offered yet.[13] On November 19, 2014, it was announced that Morgan Freeman and Michael Caine were cast in the film to play the lead roles, while Dustin Hoffman was in talks to join them.[3] On April 9, 2015, Alan Arkin joined the cast of the film to complete the lead cast of three.[5] On August 3, 2015, Joey King joined the cast of the film to play Caine’s character’s granddaughter.[6] On August 10, 2015, Matt Dillon was added to the cast to play an FBI Agent named Hamer, pursuing the three elderly lifelong friends and robbers.[7] The same day, Ann-Margret was cast in the film for an unspecified role.[8]

Principal photography on the film began in Brooklyn, New York City on August 3, 2015.[5][14] Filming also took place in Astoria, Queens.[15][16]

Cinema 2.017 – Ghost in the shell

Ghost in the Shell is an upcoming American science fiction action film directed by Rupert Sanders and written by Jamie Moss, William Wheeler and Ehren Kruger, based on the Japanese manga of the same name by Masamune Shirow. Sanders dedicated the film to Buried director Rodrigo Cortés.[citation needed]The film stars Scarlett Johansson, Michael Pitt, Pilou Asbæk, Chin Han and Juliette Binoche. It will be released on March 31, 2017, in 2D, 3D and IMAX 3D.[5]

Cast – Elenco

Production

In 2008, DreamWorks (which had distributed theatrically in the United States through its Go Fish Pictures banner the film Ghost in the Shell 2: Innocence) and Steven Spielberg acquired the rights to produce a live-action film adaptation of the original manga. Avi Arad and Steven Paul were later confirmed as producers, with Jamie Moss to write the screenplay.[10] In October 2009, it was announced that Laeta Kalogridis had replaced Moss as writer.[11] On January 24, 2014, it was reported that Rupert Sanders would direct the film, with a screenplay by William Wheeler.[12] Wheeler worked on the script for approximately a year and a half, later saying, “It’s a vast enterprise. I think I was second or third in the mix, and I know there have been at least six or seven writers.”[13] Jonathan Herman also worked on the screenplay. Ultimately, credit for the screenplay was given to Moss, Wheeler and Ehren Kruger.

On September 3, 2014, Margot Robbie was in early talks for the lead role.[14] On October 16, it was announced that DreamWorks had made a $10 million offer to Scarlett Johansson for the lead role, after Robbie’s talks for the role fell apart when she was cast as Harley Quinn in Suicide Squad.[15] This marks the second time that Scarlett Johansson stars in a cyberpunk film after The Island (2005). In May 2015, Paramount Pictures agreed to co-produce and co-finance the film.[16] On November 10, 2015, Pilou Asbæk was cast in the film for the role of Batou, the best fighter and second in command in Section 9.[17] On November 19, 2015, it was reported that Sam Riley was in early talks to join the film for the villain role as Kuze, the leader of most dangerous criminals and extremists.[18] But, on February 4, 2016, Variety reported that Michael Pitt was in talks for the role.[19] On March 3, 2016, TheWrap reported that Japanese actor Takeshi Kitano had been cast as Daisuke Aramaki, the founder and leader of the elite unit Section 9 tasked with protecting the world from the most dangerous technological threats.[20]

Principal photography on the film began on location in Wellington, New Zealand, on February 1, 2016.[21] In April 2016, the full cast was announced, which included Juliette Binoche, Chin Han, Lasarus Ratuere and Kaori Momoi.[8] In May 2016, Rila Fukushima was cast in a role.[22] Filming wrapped up in New Zealand on June 3, 2016. Filming also took place in the Jordan area of Hong Kong, around Pak Hoi Street and Woosung Street on June 7, 8 and 10 or 14–16.[23][24]

Casting criticism

The casting of Johansson in the lead role caused accusations of whitewashing.[25][26][27][28] It has been alleged that the filmmakers at one point commissioned the usage of CGI and other visual effects testing to alter Johansson’s appearance in order to make her ethnicity appear Asian, spurring further backlash,[29] including an ironic video response from popular YouTube filmmaker Freddie Wong.[30][31]Paramount has stated the tests were short-lived and did not involve Johansson.[32] Some fans as well as people working in the industry have claimed the controversy is a symptom of a bigger issue, and that modern Hollywood fears casting non-white actors would bring films less of a profit than white actors would bring.[32][33] Marc Bernardin of Los Angeles Times commented that “the only race Hollywood cares about is the box office race.”[34]

In Japan, some fans of the manga were surprised that the casting caused controversy, since many already assumed that a Hollywood production would choose a white actress in the lead role, and they considered that not too much attention should be paid to the physical appearance of the main protagonist because the dominant themes in Ghost in the Shell are the nature of self-identity and how it becomes affected with the use of different cyborg bodies that host human cyber-brains.[35] Sam Yoshiba, director of the international business division at Kodansha’s Tokyo headquarters (the company that holds the rights to the series and its characters) said, “Looking at her career so far, I think Scarlett Johansson is well cast. She has the cyberpunk feel. And we never imagined it would be a Japanese actress in the first place… this is a chance for a Japanese property to be seen around the world.”[35][36]

During a launch event in Tokyo, Sanders said of Johansson, “There are very few actresses with 20 years’ experience who have the cyberpunk ethic already baked in. I stand by my decision — she’s the best actress of her generation”.[37] Paramount released a featurette of Mamoru Oshii (director of the original films) visiting the studio, in which he says that Johansson exceeded his expectations for the role.[38]Paul addressed the controversy, referring to the setting of the film as “an international world,” stating “There [are] all sorts of people and nationalities in the world in Ghost in the Shell. We’re utilizing people from all over the world. There’s Japanese in it. There’s Chinese in it. There’s English in it. There’s Americans in it.”[39]

Johansson replied to the criticism, stating, “I certainly would never presume to play another race of a person. Diversity is important in Hollywood, and I would never want to feel like I was playing a character that was offensive. Also, having a franchise with a female protagonist driving it is such a rare opportunity. Certainly, I feel the enormous pressure of that—the weight of such a big property on my shoulders.”[40]

Release

Ghost in the Shell was originally scheduled by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures for an April 14, 2017, release through their Touchstone Pictures banner.[41][42] The film was part of DreamWorks’ distribution deal with Walt Disney Studios, which began in 2009.[43] In April 2015, Disney moved the film’s release date in North America to March 31, 2017, with Paramount Pictures handling international distribution.[16][44] However, it was reported in September 2015 that DreamWorks and Disney would not renew their distribution deal, which was set to expire in August 2016.[45] In January 2016, Disney dropped the film from its release slate after DreamWorks’ distribution deal with Universal Pictures was finalized in December 2015.[46][47] Disney’s distribution rights for the film were transferred completely to Paramount instead of Universal, with Paramount retaining Disney’s release date of March 31, 2017.[46]

Development

Legendary Pictures announced in July 2014 at the San Diego Comic-Con a King Kong origin story—initially titled Skull Island—and listed a release date of November 4, 2016, with Universal Pictures distributing.[7] Legendary offered Joe Cornish the job of directing the film,[8] while previous King Kong helmer Peter Jackson suggested Guillermo del Toro.[9] In September 2014, the studio announced that Jordan Vogt-Roberts would direct the film.[10]

On December 12, 2014, the studio announced they had re-titled the film Kong: Skull Island. On September 10, 2015, it was announced that Universal would let Legendary Pictures move Kong: Skull Island to Warner Bros.,[11] so they could do a King Kong and Godzilla crossover film, since Legendary still had the rights to do the two Godzilla sequels with Warner Brothers.[12][13] Later, it was announced that the film’s script had references to Monarch, the secret government entity in Godzilla (2014).[14]

The script saw a number of screenwriters attached before filming. Seeking the continuity between the King Kong and Godzilla worlds, Max Borenstein (writer of 2014’s Godzilla) wrote the first draft while John Gatins was hired to write the second draft.[15] In August 2015, it was revealed that Dan Gilroy also collaborated on the script with Borenstein and Gatins.[16] On August 18, 2015, it was confirmed that Derek Connolly was also doing script rewrites.[17]

In April 2016, artist Joe DeVito sued producers of the film for using elements of his Skull Island universe, which he claimed that he created and the producers used without his permission.[18]

Creature design

Kong’s official design revealed via Entertainment Weekly.

Director Vogt-Roberts stated that he wanted Kong to look simple and iconic enough that a third grader could draw him and it would still be recognizable.[19] Vogt-Roberts also wanted Kong to feel like a “lonely God, he was a morose figure, lumbering around this island” and took the design back to the 1933 incarnation where Kong was presented as a “bipedal creature that walks in an upright position.”[19] Vogt-Roberts additionally stated, “If anything, our Kong is meant to be a throwback to the ’33 version. [Kong] was a movie monster, so we worked really hard to take some of the elements of the ’33 version, some of those exaggerated features, some of those cartoonish and iconic qualities, and then make them their own…We created something that to some degree served as a throwback to the inspiration for what started all of this, but then also [had] it be a fully unique and different creature that — I would like to think — is fully contained and identifiable as the 2017 version of King Kong. I think there are very modern elements to him, yet hopefully he feels very timeless at the same time.”[19]

Hayao Miyazaki‘s Princess Mononoke helped influence the design and approach of the monsters, Vogt-Roberts stated, “Miyazaki[‘s] Princess Mononoke was actually a big reference in the way that the spirit creatures sort of have their own domains and fit within that. So a big thing [was] trying to design creatures that felt realistic and could exist in an ecosystem that feels sort of wild and out there, and then also design things that simultaneously felt beautiful and horrifying at the same time.”[3]

Casting

The cast and director of Kong: Skull Island at the 2016 San Diego Comic-Con to promote the film.

At the same time of the announcement of Vogt-Roberts as director, the studio also announced that Tom Hiddleston would play the lead role.[10] On December 15, 2014, it was announced that J. K. Simmons had been cast in the film.[20] In an interview with MTV, Simmons revealed that the film would be set in Detroit in 1971, and that they would shoot it in Detroit during baseball season.[21]

In January 2015, it was announced that Michael Keaton had joined the cast.[22] On July 1, 2015, Keaton and Simmons exited the film due to their scheduling conflicts.[23] Legendary did not want to delay more in start of production so the studio began the search of two actors to replace.[23] On July 23, 2015, Brie Larson was cast in the film to play the female lead.[24] On August 5, 2015, it was announced that Corey Hawkins was cast in the film to play a supporting role. [16] On August 6, 2015, Deadline.com reported that the studio was in early talks with Samuel L. Jackson to replace the role which Simmons vacated, while John C. Reilly was being eyed for Keaton’s role but not offered yet. Tom Wilkinson was also offered a role in the film.[25]

On August 20, 2015, Toby Kebbell joined the cast of the film, while Jackson and Reilly were confirmed for roles.[26] On August 25, 2015, Jason Mitchell joined the cast to play a pilot in the film.[27] On September 25, 2015, John Goodman was cast in the film to play Randa, a government official and leader of an expedition and Thomas Mann was also cast.[28][29] On October 1, 2015, John Ortiz and Shea Whigham were added to the cast for unspecified roles.[30] On October 13, 2015, Eugene Cordero joined the film for an unspecified role.[31]On November 2, 2015, it was announced Will Brittain had joined the cast of the film, portraying the role of a pilot, and grabbing one of the last key leads in the film.[32] In May 2016, Toby Kebbell revealed that Terry Notary would portray Kong through motion capture and that Kebbell provided some guidance for Kong’s motion capture sequences.[5]

Filming

Principal photography on the film began on October 19, 2015, and concluded on March 18, 2016.[33] Filming took place in the northern portion of Vietnam including Tràng An, Vân Long and Tam Cốc (Ninh Bình Province), Hạ Long Bay (Quảng Ninh Province) and at the entrance of Tú Làn Caves System, (Tân Hoá, Trung Hoá Village, Minh Hoá District Quảng Bình Province), the island of Oahu in Hawaii, and Australia’s Gold Coast. Locations included Honolulu’s Chinatown and at the Kualoa Ranch and Waikane Valley (Ohulehule Forest Conservancy) on Oahu.[34][35] In mid-January 2016, filming started in Gold Coast, Queensland, Australia.[36][37]

Release

On December 12, 2014, the release date moved from November 4, 2016, to March 10, 2017. It is planned to be released in 3D and IMAX 3D; as well as in Dolby Vision High Dynamic Range and Dolby Atmos sound in Dolby Cinemas.[38]

In September 2015, Legendary moved Kong: Skull Island from Universal to Warner Bros., which sparked media speculation that Godzilla and King Kong will appear in a film together.[39][40] In October 2015, Legendary confirmed that they would unite Godzilla and King Kong in Godzilla vs. Kong, set for a May 29, 2020, release date. Legendary plans to create a shared cinematic franchise “centered around Monarch” and that “brings together Godzilla and Legendary’s King Kong in an ecosystem of other giant super-species, both classic and new”. While Legendary will maintain its home at Universal Pictures, it will continue to collaborate with Warner Bros. for the franchise.[41]

Cinema 2.017 – Logan

Logan

Trilogia Wolverine

Logan is an upcoming American superhero film featuring the Marvel Comics character Wolverine, produced by Marvel Entertainment, TSG Entertainment and The Donners’ Company, and distributed by 20th Century Fox.[2][3] It is intended to be the tenth installment in the X-Men film series, as well as the third and final Logan solo film following X-Men Origins: Wolverine (2009) and The Wolverine (2013).[4][5]The film takes inspiration from “Old Man Logan” by Mark Millar and Steve McNiven, which follows a past-his-prime Logan undertaking a final adventure in the post-apocalyptic future.[6][7][8]

The film is directed by James Mangold, who co-wrote the screenplay with Michael Green and Scott Frank, from a story by David James Kelly and Mangold.[9]Hugh Jackman stars as Logan in what is intended to be his final portrayal of the character after having played the role for 17 years, with Patrick Stewart co-starring as Charles Xavier.[10]Richard E. Grant, Boyd Holbrook, Stephen Merchant, Dafne Keen, Eriq La Salle, Elise Neal and Elizabeth Rodriguez are all featured in supporting roles.[11][12] Principal photography began in Louisiana on May 2, 2016 and ended on August 19th, 2016 in New Mexico.[13][14][15] The locations used for Logan were mainly Louisiana, New Mexico, and Mississippi.[16][17][18] On January 21st, 2017, Hugh Jackman confirmed the movie is not in the same universe as the other X-Men movies. [19]

Logan is scheduled to be released on March 3, 2017 in the United States in IMAX formats.[20]

Premise

A weary Logan cares for an ailing Professor X in a hide out on the Mexican border. Attempts to hide from the world and his legacy, however, are up-ended when a young mutant arrives, being pursued by dark forces.[21]

Sinopse

Cast

A physically enhanced mutant with accelerated healing, who’s dealing with his age and ailment.[22][23] Mangold describes Logan as “old”, as well as stating, “it’s clear his abilities aren’t what they once were”,[24] as well as one of Charles Xavier’s caregivers, alongside Caliban.[24] Mangold spoke of Logan’s age influencing his regenerative capabilities, to which he states may no longer produce soft skin,[25] “[…] So we imagined he heals quickly, still, but it leaves a scar. The simple idea was that his body would start to get a little more ravaged with a kind of tattooing of past battles, lacerations that remain of previous conflicts.”[26] Jackman indicated that he believed he was nearing the end of his run as Wolverine, so there was speculation early on that his next film could be his last.[27] On the second page of screenplay, Mangold spoke of Logan as “[…] he’s older now and it’s clear his abilities aren’t what they once were. He’s fading on the inside and his diminished healing factor keeps him in a constant state of chronic pain — hence booze as a painkiller.”[28][29] Jackman requested for fan input on the direction Wolverine’s story should go in the next film, while seeming to confirm that the project would serve as his farewell to Logan.[30] To prepare for his role, Jackman ate a minimum of six meals per day, when working with trainer Mike Ryan.[31] Ryan stated that an average workout session for Jackman lasts up to three hours, beginning at 4:00 a.m.[32]Jackman stated, “[…] it’s going to be very different. Very different in tone and hopefully different to anything we’ve done.”[33] Jackman explained that comedian Jerry Seinfeld was indirectly responsible for his decision to stop playing Logan after 17 years, with Jackman stating, “I was having a chat with [Seinfeld] about a year ago […] he was talking about why he finished Seinfeld […] He said he’d always had this feeling and belief that you never know when either your energy or the audience’s energy is going to dip over into people [saying] ‘Oh, please go.'”[34] Jackman accepted a pay reduction to ensure that the film would be produced to receive an R-rating.[35]
A mutant who is the world’s most powerful telepath, and founder and former leader of the X-Men.[36][37] Charles’s telepathic abilities have become unstable, and at times he doesn’t even remember who Logan is.[24] During the events of Logan, Xavier is cared for by Logan and Caliban.[38] On August 13, 2015, Stewart, in an interview with Collider.com, expressed intrigue at the possibility of an Old Man Logan story, with him stating, “[…] The idea of an old Wolverine, I’m really looking forward to [Jackman] getting old […]”.[39][40] When asked of rumors about his involvement in Mangold’s film he remarked “I think what you say is true. There is a project in development. I understand that Professor Xavier will be making more than an appearance, however, and that intrigues me.”[41] Prior to filming Logan, Stewart spoke of a different version of the character, “He’s a terrific character, but I am looking forward – if what I’ve been told is true – to a different version of Charles. We shall see.”[42] On the character of Xavier, Mangold mentions the themes of ageing and loneliness, to which he further explains,[43]“We’ve seen these characters in action, saving the universe. But what happens when you’re in retirement and that career is over?[44] The really interesting thing to me, or a place to dig that hadn’t been dug, was the idea of mutants when they’re no longer useful to the world, or even sure if they can do what they used to do. Their powers are diminished like all of ours are by age.”[23]Speaking of his appearance in Mangold’s film, Stewart remarked that “[…] this is probably the end of this franchise for me. But the thing about science fiction and fantasy is that you can never, ever say it’s the end, it’s over.”[45] In an interview with Digital Spy, Mangold stated, “Our Charles is a very sweet character in this film. I think he’s always been an incredibly sweet character. With the addition of his own physical fragility in this movie, he becomes an incredibly powerful paternal figure in the movie. Logan is more of a reluctant one, I think you can easily guess.”[46] Mangold continued in which he stated, “But I think there’s a lot of heart all around. That’s the other thing audiences can expect, and I think I expect of myself. Which is just, I’m not trying to deliver – and have no intention of just making – a bloodfest.”[46]
Transigens relentless, calculating and intense head of security, and leader of the Reavers.[47][48][49] On the character of Pierce, Holbrook stated, “He’s an innovative engineer and he’s a big fan of Wolverine. He just wants to hang out with him […] There’s a lot of surprising stuff in it.[50] Mangold spoke very highly of Holbrook’s acting talents, and speaking as to his casting decision, Mangold remarked, “He’s a fabulous actor. He’s also, to me, in terms of playing an antagonist, he’s got humour.”[23] Mangold also remarked that, “[Pierce] has a relationship with the institution that made Laura. He’s been sent to retrieve her along with his team.”,[46] while Mangold later puts forth that “[Holbrook] is just a fabulous actor. I wanted this film to feel intimate and real and truthfully acted, and I wanted very much to break away from the kind of bloated feeling I’ve gotten from a lot of comic-book movies.”[46]
Surgical head of the project Transigen.[47] On the character of Rice, Mangold stated, “He’s the puppet master behind Pierce and the Reavers, and has a much larger role in the sense that he’s actually the kind of brilliant mind that is trying to grow mutants.”[46]
A mutant who can sense and track other mutants, who is helping Logan take care of Xavier.[24] On Merchant taking the role, Mangold mentioned, “I’m always interested to find the thing that looks most interesting on the actors. Stephen is a huge man. One of the things that is so wonderful filming with him for a character like this is that he’s a good six inches taller than Logan, and huge over Patrick. The little kid in the movie would come up to basically his knee. So there’s a wonderful sense of scale – but he has heart too.”[23] Mangold concluded by stating, “So that was a wonderful energy to enter the movie, and someone who instead of turning things into their own energy kind of joined ours.”[23] Caliban was previously portrayed by Tómas Lemarquis in X-Men: Apocalypse.[51]
A mysterious young mutant, who is “very much” like Logan.[47][23]On Keen’s portrayal of Laura, Mangold mentioned, “If anyone could steal a movie from [Jackman], it would be Dafne. She carries, all the time, a slight strangeness.”[53] Sienna Novikov served as Keen’s stunt double.[54][55] In an interview with Digital Spy, Mangold stated, “[…] [Keen] was 11 years old when were shooting. She’s a remarkable kid. Her parents are actors, and she’s kind of a very modern kid. Very physically capable. Incredibly gifted as an actress. I mean, it was a huge risk for Fox to allow me to make a movie where the third point of the triangle was built upon someone so young.”[46] Mangold revealed that the worldwide search for an actress to portray Laura was one in which he was seeking “someone who was bilingual because I wanted a Latina kid – one who was between 10 and 12, and was a credible child.”[46] He later stated of Laura that: “She’s an 11-year-old girl equipped with all the volatility, instability, mood swings, shadows and potential violence of our hero.”[46]

Additionally, Eriq La Salle, Elise Neal and Elizabeth Rodriguez have been cast in unidentified supporting roles.[56][57][58] Doris Morgado appears as Maria.[59] In the commentary to X-Men: Apocalypse, director Bryan Singer had stated that his film’s post-credits scene would directly connect with the on-screen debut of X-Men antagonist Nathaniel Essex / Mister Sinister in Logan;[60][61][62][63][64] however in January of 2017, Mangold stated that the character would not be appearing in this film, a choice he made to keep the film’s grounded style consistent.[65]

Hugh and I have been talking about what we would do since we were working on the last one, and for both of us it was this requirement that, to be even interested in doing it, we had to free ourselves from some assumptions that had existed in the past, and be able to change the tone a bit. Not merely to change for change’s sake, but also to make something that’s speaking to the culture now, that’s not just the same style — how many times can they save the world in one way or another? How can we construct a story that’s built more on character and character issues, in a way as if it almost wasn’t a superhero movie, yet it features their powers and struggles and themes?”

James Mangold, on the development and approach of Logan[66]

On November 5, 2013, Deadline.com reported that 20th Century Fox had begun negotiations for another solo film starring Wolverine, with James Mangold in negotiations to write the treatment for the film, and Lauren Shuler Donner returning to produce under The Donners’ Company.[67][68][69][70] On November 13, 2013, in an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Hugh Jackman neither confirmed nor denied whether he had officially signed on to reprise Logan in another film,[71][72] though Jackman insisted that his lapsing contract with Fox, which reportedly will need to be renegotiated after X-Men: Days of Future Past (2014),[73] doesn’t mean he’ll leave the franchise, as he’s been working movie-by-movie since X2 (2003).[74] He also stated, “I do want to do it with Jim and with [producer] Lauren Shuler-Donner because we had such a great experience. I’m really proud of The Wolverine (2013).”[75] On November 19, 2013, in an interview with Collider.com, James Mangold announced that the pre-production aspect of the film hasn’t begun as of yet, nor the writing process, though he furthered this by stating, “[…] I would say I’m not there yet. But I have taken finger to key. Let’s say that. There’s been typing. And ideas. And talking amongst all the principles.”[76]

Shortly after the release of The Wolverine, on November 19, 2013, Mangold spoke of a potential sequel with the aim of not converting it into a “Will the world survive?” film, while also stressing “[…] not to make the same picture again.”[77][78] Mangold also mentioned some of the potential development structure that he may employ, while also addressing issues of character-centricity,[79] “I think the key thing for me, you heard me talking about how I construct scripts, is just figuring out the key relationships and just what it’s about, what theme the whole thing is going to be about. I’ve got a good angle on it, but I’m not ready to talk about it yet!”[80] On December 5, 2013, Jackman was interviewed by Vanity Fair wherein he spoke of nearing the end of his tenure as the character, while stating the film being in the very early stages of development.[81] Jackman also revealed that Mangold and he had begun speaking of potential ideas, with him adding, “[…] Jim Mangold and I were literally on the phone last night talking about ideas but there is no script and no writer yet so it’s a way off.”[82]

On March 16, 2014, it was reported that Mangold will begin to shooting after Bryan Singer‘s X-Men: Apocalypse (2016), with the tentative plan to shoot it back-to-back,[83]
